Last night’s event touched upon an interesting topic: how to build a sustainable business model that generates revenue, but with the mission of doing something good for the community. The event started with a very nice networking hour between young and experienced entrepreneurs in the Boston startup scene. Jonah Lupton spoke first, and explored different ways of creating a socially good business. It included: social impact, sustainability, innovation, resources, market opportunity, scalability and financial capital.
Jared Franklin, from Chase Technology, answered several questions throughout the presentation: Do your customers really care about your product and or service your selling? Does it move them in any way? Does it hit them emotionally? Can they make a personal connection to it? Jared even presented with his own visual aids to help EFactor members understand how his business model works.
Veer Gidwaney, from DailyFeats, gave one of the most unforgettable presentations. He started the presentation by showing the problems everyone encounters in our daily lives, to explaining that DailyFeats’ mission is: to help people live better. While explaining how his business model works, he also showcased several big brand sponsors that also support his organization, and why. Companies like: Tommy Hilfiger, MTV, Gaiam...are all partners of DailyFeats, creating a profitable business model for DailyFeats and all for the cause of doing something good. Attendees were thoroughly interested and fascinated with Veer’s presentation, many asked questions, showed support and interest for his company.
Bill Yucatonis, from GoodTwo, gave a presentation on his organization. And closed the evening with: Don’t underestimate the power of nonprofits and schools, don’t disrespect the donor relationship and don’t always think that being a good corporate citizen or having a cause-based model equals a loss of profit. Afterhour networking was also quite a success, people munched on food and drinks while approaching the speakers individually for some more discussions. ï»¿
